Below are three photos to give you an idea of how much product you will receive in each size package. We filled up each size bag with marbles and placed them next to a quarter to provide a clear representation. There are two different photos, one for standard spices/seasonings and one for herbs. Since many herbs are so leafy the same weight will fill up a much larger bag. This is why some of the herb prices seem a lot higher than the spice prices, but you are actually receiving more product.

The third image is of our 1 cup Bottle with Sifter next to a popular national brand found in most grocery stores. You can see that our bottle holds close to 2.5 times more product than the national brand bottle. Plus, ours often costs less! Please be aware some other online retailers only offer 1/2 cup(4 fluid ounces) bottles. We choose to offer double the size 1 cup (8 fluid ounces) bottles to give you the biggest bang for your buck!

We hope you can see from these images that regardless of which size you order, you are getting a lot of product and a very good value compared to the supermarket.

Too much cinnamon

I went in blind, not knowing how this spice should taste, so have nothing with which to compare it. I tried it several chinese recipes that called for 5 Spice Powder and found that it made all of them worse. The excessive
cinnamon-esque taste in the blend overpowers everything else, even the base ingredients. So, I don't know if my palate or expectations were wrong, but I will not be ordering more.

Chinese 5 spice

I've never tried any other variety so I don't know if it's how it's supposed to be or not, but I find it to be heavy on the cinnamon.

Great for Sauces and Broths

Since being placed on a sodium restricted diet due to high blood pressure, I have been looking for alternative seasonings that do not contain salt. I took a chance on this as the 5 spices supposedly contain the tastes your tongue desires. The contents are very fragrant and pungent. It's good sprinkled on oatmeal and cooked in rice, but found the flavor comes out best in sauces and soups. A little of this spice mixed with soy sauce, toasted sesame oil and water makes a great tasting broth for ramen and rice noodles. I also mix in fresh garlic and ginger to same recipe and add cornstarch to thicken and use it as a stir-fry sauce.
